EMMZY AHMAD

by Emily Gruz - Jalya Writer

"Hello, my name is Emmzy and I am from Kurdistan, born in Turkey and raised in Alberta.

I am so passionate about making beautiful spaces in a home and making your house a home! I have 3 babies under the ages of 5 that keep me busy and also have a full time job.

Every available moment I get, I’m either thinking about how to decorate a certain space or actually working on the space trying to complete it. I love keeping myself busy , but doing what you love never feels like a job." - Emmzy

When did you start your business? Was there something/someone who inspired you?

I always yearned to start my own business and be my own boss not knowing what to do. I have tried and looked into so many different channels and avenues not realizing what I love has been right in front of me and I’ve been practicing it for years, Home Decor!

I started my Home Decor blog in October 2020 and started to design and teach myself DIY in the process. I was inspired by the HGTV stars, watching them daily has made me want to create beautiful spaces. With the help of my husband, we hope to grow the home movement to place where we can both quit our full time jobs and focus solely on all things home decor and DIY.

Would you say you reached all of your goals since you started or do you have more to achieve?

I feel like I just got my feet wet in this world. I have so many goals and so many things I want to achieve.

I want to grow The Home Movement blog, create my own home decor line, and continue to create so many more beautiful functional spaces.

What are the ups and downs when dealing with the Arab community?

The Arabic community has been very supportive around me!

What would you change if you had to do it all over again?

I would have nothing to change except I wish I started earlier!

What challenges has Covid-19 brought to you and your business and how did you overcome them?

With Covid-19, although it’s been a tough time for us all with all the new adjustments we have to make, I find everyone has been way more supportive towards small businesses.

They are more willing to help smaller business over the big corps.
